SWORD FERN
Nephrolepis cordifolia
Description
Sword Fern is utilised in landscapes or bright interiorscapes. To the touch, the fronds are tough and leathery and when properly nourished the foliage is a very attractive forest green (often utilised as cut foliage). The fronds grow thick, full, and have a very distinguishable upright (sword) growth habit. The Sword Fern is successfully sold and shipped from full sun production, however, some shade acclimatisation is recommended for interior use. After a few months indoors and particularly if under modest light the fronds will cascade to a softer texture/appearance. For clean fast consistent cropping of this form we suggest tissue culture instead of sporelings.
The variety 'Emerald Queen' has proven to be a very good alternative for Sword Fern growers.
